Construction Process

Construction

From project to pool.  We'll show you every step of the way.

pre-construction milestones

There's a lot of work that goes into your new project before we even break ground.

design meeting

During this initial meeting, we'll cover things like design, budget, timeline, must haves, nice-to-haves, and take a look at your backyard. We will answer every question you have as we start down this path together.

Our approach is high-education and low-pressure. The only rush is your timeline.

design review

After discussion your ideas and taking careful notes, we'll try to layout exactly what you want. Sometimes, this process takes several rounds but it's important to agree on what is being built so we can tell you exactly how much it will cost.

If you already have a design or some ideas, that's great. If you don't, we'll make some suggestions. In the end, it's all about you and what you envision for your pool. Our only concern is keeping your dreams in line with your budget.

We'll help you explore options and can even send you out to look at important design elements before you pull the trigger.

permitting & approvals

Once we recieve your first draw (payment), we start permitting the pool with local government while you obtain any HOA approvals necessary. This process typically takes a couple of weeks. We use the time to draft your project timeline, secure materials, and ensure resources are in place.

This is also a good time for you to prepare for construction. You might also start picking out some design elements and colors if you haven't already.

pre-construction kick off

We'll bring paint, string, stakes and flags to this big milestone. This is where the rubber meets the road ...err... the design meets your yard.

We will carefully layout exactly where your pool, spa, deck, and other features will go. This is a critical step, because these markers are what our team uses during excavation to direct the backhoe.

This is an exciting day for most families because building a pool becomes very tangible. And it only gets better from here.

construction milestones

Once we break ground, this is how we turn a design into a reality.

excavation & rebar

A little bit noisy and a little bit dirty, you'll watch as your pool takes shape. Rebar is added to strengthen the gunite that will eventually become your pool. Any raised beams (walls out of the ground) are thicker and reinforced to hold the weight of the water. Any elevations are achieved with sandbags which prevent the dirt from settling after the build.

This phase of construction will see some of your grass destroyed and your sprinkler system torn up. We will fix those things later in the project.

Interestingly, you may see large piles of dirt accumulate. We may use the dirt to backfill in other aspects of the project, or we will haul it off.

plumbing & electrical

A critical point in the build thus far, this is when all of the plumbing goes in to create pool returns, jets, waterfalls, bubblers, in-floor cleaners, and filtration. We also run conduit for lighting and layout any low voltage landscape lighting that will be needed later.

We make sure this step is 100% perfect, because it's impossible to change once the gunite is blown in.

gunite

One of the most interesting (and dirty) days on site is gunite day. Depending on the size of your pool, this may take all day to complete. Gunite is a very hard concrete with a high mix of cement in it. Gunite is harder than the foundation on your house. It's also very expensive and drives a lot of the cost of your new pool.

If you can find an hour to watch them blow the gunite, you'll find it very interesting.

coping, tile, & deck

Your pool and your selections really start to take shape now. You've picked out tile and coping (the edge of the pool). Now it goes on. During this milestone, we try to do almost everyting we can before the plaster and water go into the pool.

This step may be relatively quick, but if you add stone or extensive patios it may take a little longer.  One thing is for sure, we don't want to rush the stone masons.

We think this is where our team shines. Our exacting attention to detail will ensure the fit and finish of your pool makes you (and us) proud.

plaster, equipment, & fill

This is it! The day you've been waiting for. The pool plaster is put on and water goes in to protect it.

You can pick from all sorts of plasters. Most common in today's pools are pebble and stone blends that last a 'lifetime' and look amazing.

We'll get your pool equipment started quickly after the pool fills.
