FAQs

You ask 'em, we answer 'em.  No fluff. No bull. Just straight talk.
Buying a pool is expensive. We don't feel like we should beat around the bush.

how much does a pool cost?

So let's get right to it. Honestly, we don't know... yet.

Here's three of many pieces of missing information:
  • What is your backyard like? What's the terrain, access, and size? What is there now? While we can work with almost any backyard, many factors effect cost.
  • How big a pool you want to build? And how deep do you want it?  The bigger it is the more gunite, steel, & excavation required.
  • What features are you adding? A slide, a spa, waterfalls, grottos, and/or tanning ledge? How much deck or patio? How about an outdoor kitchen?
We can build a very affordable pool or we can build an elaborate pool. Let's have a conversation about all of these things and figure out what will fit your budget and meet your needs.

We've built a fairly simple pool for as little as $60,000 and built pools for as much as $300,000.

when do I pay?

Most pool construction is paid for in draws. While we detail this in your Construction Agreement, typically most of our pools have 5 draws that are triggered at major milestones of the project.

Be wary of a pool builder that asks for significant payment in advance. It's a sign of limited working capital and may indicate more.

Although rare, be wary of a pool builder that wants payment upon completion. Sometimes they find a better project and move resources there, leaving you with little recourse because you haven't lost any money.

how fast can you build my pool?

In large part, this question depends on many of the same factors listed above.

We've built pools in as little as six week. More complex projects have taken 3 months.

Unfortunately, building a swimming pool can't be sped up by throwing manpower at it. There are certain items that must be competed before the next one can begin.

Take a look at our Construction Page for more details.

do you just build pools?

No. In fact, that's a huge advantage of working with Edgewater Pools.

We build pools, spas, cabanas, pizza ovens, grottos, slides, decks, patios, and landscaping (just to name a few). You won't have to go find a seperate contractor for different features of your backyard. We can even fix your fence, sprinklers, and grass before we leave, so you don't have to hire a separate contractor.

If you aren't looking to build a pool but still need help with a different project, we're happy to have you as a customer.

will you be tearing up my yard, sprinkler, and grass?

This is one of those bad news - good news stories.

Bad News: Yes. We're going to likely destroy your grass and sprinklers during excavation and construction. We will avoid your trees and their root systems as much as possible.

Good News: We will fix it all before we leave. You won't have to hire a seperate contractor to clean up our mess. In fact, 25 years ago we got our start in the landscaping and irrigation business, so we're actually pretty good.

PS - we'll fix the fence too.

can't I build my own pool?

We've expereinced this option a few times. Perhaps you're a handyman or a do-it-yourselfer. More power to you! We're that type of person too.

What are the risks you might ask? Plenty. The largest is not knowing what you don't know. That's a huge blindspot.

  • Who are the really good subcontractors to use?
  • More importantly, which ones should you avoid?
  • Where do you source materials or do you just let the subs mark em up?
  • How do you know the job was done correctly and what are the pitfalls to look out for?

Even if you feel comforable with all of these quesitons, you need to be prepared to spend an enourmous amount of time on the project. We spend 25-30 hours per week just scheduling and sourcing labor and materials.

And what about the warranty? Are you ready to settle a dispute between the plumber and the plaster guys? Something will go wrong. It's not an "if", it's a "when".

We strongly feel that the margin we bring to a project far outweights the above. We bring 25 years of expereince and value to your pool project. We will earn our pay, earn your trust, and earn your respect for what we do every day.
